Since 2018 the working group for accessibility in the German UPA (professional association of german usability and user experience professionals) publishes several articles to raise awareness of digital accessibility and make existing knowledge and information accessible for UX professionals. GLOBAL ACCESSIBILITY AWARENESS DAY (In Person)

The Digital Accessibility Office is hosting a conference-style event in celebration of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). We are pleased to welcome David DeNotaris, author of “Feeling Your Way Through Life: A Journey Through Challenges, Insights and Possibilities” as our keynote speaker. He will be sharing his personal journey and discussing the importance of accessible technology as a foundation for education and employment. The keynote presentation will be followed by workshops, including a demonstration of Apple’s accessibility features from Jeff Bigham, and a panel discussion with guests from Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, and others about accessibility initiatives in our region.

Celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness with a Panel from Vista Center (Private/Internal)

The PayPal Customer Experience and Accessibility Teams invite the Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired to have a panel speak about their lived experiences and the importance of accessibility in their lives. The speakers are Alice Turner, John Glass, and Neeraj Gupta.

GAAD at UNTHSC (In Person)

To commemorate Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), the Division of Academic Innovation is hosting an event showcasing simulations of various disabilities to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion for the more than 1 billion people with disabilities/impairments worldwide. Activities will include low vision simulation, demonstration of orientation and mobility practices, demonstration of assistive technology devices, and first hand experience with service and therapy animals. The UNTHSC Office of Disability Access will be there to provide information on services available to students with disabilities. Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth, Canine Companions, and PAWS are participating organizations in this event. GAAD Slovenia 2023 (In Person)

First GAAD event in Slovenia. Live conference. The conference is designed to raise awareness (World Accessibility Awareness Day) and inform about key requirements, needs and problems, and of course also supported by examples of good practices, guidelines for successful solutions and a look ahead. Topics will focus on the state of digital accessibility in Slovenia, legislation, accessibility standards – WCAG, user experience, the public sector, examples of good practice, planned actions, future activities. Speakers come from different organisations. From government representatives, best accessibility professionals in Slovenia, users with disabilities and those who allready have experience of achieving final goals: accessible web sites and applications. The conference is organised by the Institute for Digital Accessibility A11Y.si, the Beletrina Institute and the Ministry for Digital Transformation of the Republic of Slovenia.
